Edmonton Muslims Condemn Recent Attack on Parliament Hill

October 22, 2014

It is with shock and deep concern that Edmonton Muslims have learnt about the attack on Parliament Hill yesterday in which a member of the Canadian Armed Forces lost his life, only two days after a Canadian soldier lost his life in a violent attack in Quebec. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the soldiers who have lost their lives and those injured in the line of duty.

Edmonton's Muslim communities stand in solidarity with all Canadian democratic, civil and military institutions in upholding the safety and security of all individuals and institutions in our country. “An attack on any Canadian civil and security institutions is an attack on Canada and it must be condemned as such, regardless of the faith affiliations claimed by the attackers involved in such incidents”, said Masood Peracha, Chair, Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities (ECMC).

This week's appalling events underscore the urgent need for ongoing cooperation between law enforcement and government agencies and communities in effectively countering the threat of violence which has now directly impacted us here in Canada. The ECMC will do everything possible to facilitate such cooperation with our agencies.
